Tiffany on Breaking, Dating and Outing 'Good Kisser' Jonathan Knight

EXCLUSIVE: Eighties icon Tiffany just wants to forget all about that whole outing-a-New-Kid-on-the-Block scandal from this week, telling me she wants to "delete" the gaffe from her life. In case you missed it, the 'I Think We're Alone Now' singer told Bravo host Andy Cohen that Jonathan Knight of NKOTB "became gay" after they dated.

Since Jonathan has never revealed his sexuality, the comment caused an uproar with fans and Tiffany soon apologized. The classy New Kid forgave her instantly. Tiffany was a brick wall by the time I got to her, but she did dish a bit about her time with JK. For starters, they dated for two years and -- trust me -- weren't a couple of saints.

"Jon's a good kisser, just throwing it out there," Tiffany said of her ex-boyfriend, adding that they did "all kinds of things" during their relationship. "We talked, toured the world, it was great," she

Tiffany even talked about the first time she met Jonathan and the New Kids, when they auditioned to open for her (likely at one of her legendary mall concerts).

"They came backstage, five hot guys, and it was me and my girlfriend eating lunch," she recalled. "We shared an agent and they were like, 'We have this new group,' and they turned on the boombox and you know, I was like, 'Put them on right now!'"

Debbie Gibson, who teamed up with Tiff to make the amazingly titled movie 'Mega Python vs. Gatoroid,' wanted to stress the significant role her friend played in the lives of millions of screaming, NKOTB button-wearing girls back then.

"She helped launch them," Debbie said.

You see, folks, Tiffany may be responsible for outing Jonathan, but she also had a role in outing New Kids on the Block as one of the biggest pop acts of the 20th century! I'd say that's a fair trade.

As for dating fellow pop stars, that's another thing Debbie sees no problem with.

"It was very big in the '80s to date your opening act," she justified. "I dated a member of my Australian opening act!"

The 'Electric Youth' superstar even revealed to me that she also mingled with a famous boy-bander. "I briefly dated Howie D." of the Backstreet Boys.

Debbie Gibson: Britney's Head-Shave Meltdown a 'Great Thing' for Her Career

By Rob Shuter Posted Jan 28th 2011 12:40PM

EXCLUSIVE: Debbie Gibson and Tiffany look like a pair of singing angels compared to their teen-pop offspring Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus, but they tell me that doesn't mean they didn't have their share of meltdowns back in the 1980s, or that having such an epic, public scandal is even a bad thing for a career anymore.

"I had my meltdowns then and still have them now, but I just do them in private," Debbie says. Tiffany wholeheartedly agrees, saying if she would have done something like shave her head or smoke out of a bong during the height of her career, there wouldn't have been paparazzi or camera phones waiting to capture her every stumble.

"In LA, the difference now is that everything is right out in the open," Tiffany explains. "The barometer is different now. Before, if we would have started having all of our meltdowns in public, it probably would have ruined our careers. It wasn't entertainment at that point."

Their squeaky clean images set them apart from their successors, but they're also fully aware that with scandal comes that compelling opportunity to redeem themselves. "We've never really gone off the deep end. People find that really un-interesting," Tiffany says.

Ultimately, Debbie argues that times have changed and that all the ups and down-down-downs that Britney has gone through in recent years have had a silver lining attached to them.

"It was a great thing for her next hit record," Debbie said of the Brit head-shaving disaster of 2007. "People were like, 'She's back. She's thriving again!' And then they want her to melt down again. And they want to lift her up again. I heard a great phrase once that goes, 'America loves a good comeback.'"

Debbie and Tiffany are out promoting their amazingly titled movie 'Mega Python vs. Gatoroid,' which premieres Saturday night on Syfy.

New Kid on the Block Jonathan Knight not 'outed' by Tiffany, he says

When '80s poptarts Tiffany and Debbie Gibson appeared on Bravo's "Watch What Happens Live" with Andy Cohen, they discussed the New Kids on the Block, and Tiffany mentioned that she had romanced one of them, Jonathan Knight.

"He became gay later," she said, leaving some viewers at home shocked. Headlines the next day announced news that Tiffany had "accidentally outed" Knight.

Except that Knight has actually been out for decades, he says.

The singer took to the official NKOTB website on Friday night to assure fans that Tiffany hadn't done anything wrong. "I have never been outed by anyone but myself!" he wrote in a blog that only fans who pay a fee can access. "I did so almost twenty years ago. I never know that I would have to do it all over again publicly just because I reunited with NKOTB! I have lived my life very openly and have never hidden the fact that I am gay."

"Apparently the pre requiste to being a gay public figure is to appear on the cover of a magazine with the caption 'I am gay [sic],'" he continued. "I apologize for not doing so if this is what was expected! My belief is that you live your life by example, and not by a caption on a magazine! If there ever has been any confusion about my sexuality, then you are someone that doesn't even know me!"

Knight says he won't be discussing his private life any further, but he did hit up Tiffany on Twitter to make sure she knew he didn't mind what she said.

Tiffany tweeted, "Really didn't know that was the wrong thing to say... Never meant to hurt Jon."

He then responded in a series of tweets - "@tiffanytunes Tiff, please don't lose any sleep over it! I know you weren't being mean and I found it to be funny! Knock em dead tomorrow! Wishing nothing but the best for you always!"

Tiffany & Debbie - Give what people want !

Back in the '80s teen pop stars Deborah Gibson and Tiffany were made out to be the biggest of rivals, mainly because they were the same age and they both sang. They were kind of the big hair-era Christina and Britney. But in a recent conference call interview we found out that the pair didn’t know each other that well back in the day. So their current collaboration on Syfy's Mega Python vs. Gatoroid was a chance for the two women to finally become friends after all these years. We spoke with them about the supposed rivalry, doing future projects together and their inspirations.

Tiffany discussed how it feels to be reconnected with Deborah after all these years. She remarked, "I think it’s something that our fans have waited for a long time. The funny thing to me is, who would've thought that pythons and gators would unite us." She continued, "It was awesome for me to be able to get to know Debbie more, because we've really never had a chance to sit and talk. So I think that that was one of the perks of being able to work with each other on this movie."

Deborah reinforced that sentiment saying, "I definitely developed a lot of admiration for Tiffany and her abilities and her work ethic and besides the fact that we just had a crazy good fun. We've been put in the same sentence forever and ever and we're well aware that there are definite pop-culture fans out there that have wanted us to collaborate on something for a long time. And we’re just happy to give them what they want. We’re giving the people what they want."

The actresses described one scene in the made-for-TV movie that finds them in the middle of an all out food fight complete with whip cream and pies. Deborah claimed, "It'll be more therapeutic for people to watch who have fantasized about that happening. I know that this is not what you want to hear, but I really never did have the desire to slap Tiffany in the face."

Tiffany added, "We've been together for a long time. Now it's coming full circle that we actually are developing a friendship."

Fans are hopeful that this collaboration will continue and they will do more projects together — maybe something of the musical variety. Deborah told us that they recently did a show at the Canal Room in New York and that if the right opportunity presents itself they would consider a tour. She admitted, "I'm somebody who takes one step at a time and I never say never. If something comes up and it interests she and I, I'm sure we would both entertain it. I think if it deterred us each from our individual musical goals and it wasn't right then we wouldn't. I'm certainly open to entertaining anything."

Tiffany interjected, "If it's for the right reason and it shines a bright light on it, it would be a great thing… Going back to the fans, I think that they deserve it and they would appreciate it, but it can't take away from what we’re doing currently now. It has to be something that embraces that as well."

The pair went on to joke about appearing on Broadway together since Gibson is very familiar with the arena. She confessed, "I'm waiting for the phone to ring for them to call us to do Velma and Roxy together in Chicago. I'm just saying."

Gibson named some of her stage inspirations, "I think I’ll do theater my whole life. Women like Patty LuPone and Betty Buckley, they’re as much heroes to me as Elton John and Billy Joel." She also discussed some pop icons, "Everybody in my genre wants to work with Dr. Luke. Personally… I think he's probably the craftiest pop writer of our time… I got to work with the late great Eartha Kitt in the tour of the musical Cinderella. She was an idol of mine. She was kicking her leg over her head still at 76 years old. People that go through all these phases in their careers and come out on top and remain youthful into their later years… those examples I always use and [those are] the people that I admire."

Tiffany jumped in to reveal she was sadden by the news of the death of her heroes, "Tina Marie was somebody that I really always was inspired by and cried so much when she passed away just recently. And I just kept thinking I never even got a chance to meet her. So, for me that was a lesson that sometimes you can't make these things happen but definitely, always maybe try to pursue them a little harder. If just standing in the room when Tina Marie was singing some of her shows — I went to many of her concerts — and just having that energy in the room I would always go home and up my game, and be inspired even more to work harder at my career to be a better songwriter and as a vocalist to just kind of live outside the box a little bit."

Mega Python vs. Gatoroid premieres on Syfy Saturday, January 29 at 9 p.m. EST/8 p.m. Central.

Video: Debbie Gibson and Tiffany Talk Campy Syfy Film, Pop

Seeing Debbie Gibson and Tiffany together doesn't cause double-takes only for fans. Even the '80s teen queens themselves find humor in appearing side-by-side as they promote their new TV movie, "Mega Python Vs. Gatoroid," which premieres on Syfy this Saturday (Jan. 29).

"When people see us together, they flip out," said Gibson when the pair, whom she has dubbed "Debany," visited our studios last week for a video interview. "They actually thought we're one person, but now they know we're not," she joked.

"It's a little trippy. It's trippy for us, too!"

Watch as Gibson, 40, and Tiffany, 39, discuss their hit-packed pasts (each scored two No. 1s on the Billboard Hot 100 between 1987 and 1989); praise the current state of female domination in pop music; set the record straight on whether they ever considered themselves rivals; and, recount the many blows of their campy on-screen dragdown.

"It is such a moment for the genuine fan, for the Syfy audience and also for people who don't have a clue where we came from," says Tiffany of the film's signature fight scene.

"It's like, 'Two girls fighting? Hot! They're both hot, you know?!'"

’80s idols end ‘rivalry’ for Syfy flick Debbie Gibson, Tiffany play foes fighting monsters

Jay Bobbin | Zap2it
It’s Debbie Gibson vs. Tiffany ... again.

The rivalry first arose at the end of the ’80s, even if it was fostered more by their bosses than by the former pop-music princesses themselves, and it’s resurfacing for the purposes of a new Syfy horror movie that debuts tonight. The singers-turned-actresses play opponents who face enemies of a much more reptilian nature in “Mega Python vs. Gatoroid.”

Gibson plays an animal-rights supporter who sets snakes free from pet stores, but they turn maxi-sized in the Florida Everglades, posing problems for the region’s alligators and an ecology-minded park ranger (Tiffany).

Directed by Mary Lambert of “Pet Sematary” fame, the project co-stars A Martinez (“Santa Barbara”), Kathryn Joosten (“Desperate Housewives”) and another musical blast from the past, ex-Monkees singer/drummer Micky Dolenz.

“I knew it would be high-end kitsch,” Gibson says, particularly when it came to her much-promoted catfight sequence with Tiffany. “At one point, we were hiding under a table because stunt doubles for us were ducking in and out, and we just had this moment where no words were necessary. We looked at each other and thought, ‘How on Earth did the two of us end up here?’ It was really funny.”

Tiffany recalls the scene was done “my second or third night on the set. Deborah had been filming for a week; I had a touring schedule that I couldn’t change, and she had to leave early, so it was awesome that we could get the scene done to begin with. It was a lot of fun, it really was. It definitely had that tongue-in-cheek kind of thing.”

Both Gibson and Tiffany have “Mega” horror-tale experience already: The former starred in “Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus,” while the latter was in “Mega Piranha.”

Gibson reflects with a laugh, “I was pretty much waiting for that phone call (about continuing the franchise). I could see where it was headed, but I’m happy that this is a bigger and better thing.” Meanwhile, Tiffany says she’s “hoping there will be more ‘Megas.’ A ‘Mega Spider’ would be a freaked-out one for me because I hate spiders.”

Tiffany, whose last name is Darwish, reports “Mega Python vs. Gatoroid” was “my first time really working with Deborah. Back then, in the (two singers’ music) heyday, I worked a lot. I was always on the road or back in the studio, so there was no time to stop. We would cross paths, but it would be at an event or by sending notes to each other. We never got a chance to really hang out.

“There was also that competitiveness,” she continues, “because we were fighting for the same slots on the charts and the same audience. Maybe the people at our labels didn’t want us to be the best of friends, but they also didn’t inspire a lot of hatred between us or anything like that. At the end of the day, it’s a business, and she was my competitor at that time.”

With a catalog of singles including “Only in My Dreams,” “Lost in Your Eyes,” “Out of the Blue” and “Electric Youth,” Gibson also has done Broadway (“Les Miserables,” “Cabaret”) and was a judge on Fox’s short-lived “American Idol” spinoff “American Juniors.” She’s still recording, and if “Mega Python vs. Gatoroid” should open a new chapter of her career, that’s fine with her.

“People are nostalgic for anything that’s ’80s or ’90s,” Gibson reasons, “so it’s kind of a perfect time to have this kind of fun. I actually went to a nature preserve and got to know a couple of snakes before we started shooting.

“If there’s one thing I have to be convincing about in this film, it’s that I have a passion for these creatures. The truth is that I really wasn’t afraid of them at all. You just have to respect them ... and obviously, you want to keep their faces out of yours.”

Tiffany built her success largely by performing at shopping malls, with a cover of Tommy James and the Shondells’ “I Think We’re Alone Now” launching a career that also has encompassed the hits “Could’ve Been” and “All This Time.” Now based in Nashville, Tiffany also continues to record, but she maintains another aspiration.

“I would love to be working with Syfy more,” she says. “I’d love to get recurring spots on some of their series. I’m a ‘Star Wars’/‘Star Trek’ kind of girl, so anything involving space or aliens or monsters, I totally would be on.”

Making “Mega Python vs. Gatoroid” together not only rebooted whatever relationship Gibson and Tiffany have shared, but put it on a deeper level that both hope to sustain.

“The big thing that we have in common,” Gibson explains, “is that we take what we do seriously. We take care of our voices, and we take our performing seriously, but we get where we came from. We’re in on the joke, so we were really able to come into this with a sense of humor, and we just went for it.”

Blasts from the past! 80s pop princesses Debbie Gibson and Tiffany put their rivalry behind them at Mega Python premiere Read more: http://www.dailym

Back in the late 80s, they were the teen queens of pop, vying with one another for chart supremacy.
But now Tiffany and Debbie Gibson seem to have put all of that behind them, and become the best of friends - even going so far as to star together in a TV movie.
And the pair were all smiles on Monday night as they attended the world premiere of the film - the special effects laden monster movie Mega Python vs Gatoroid - in New York.

Debbie, now 40, and 39-year-old Tiffany both looked terrific as they posed together at the screening, which took place at the city's Ziegfeld Theatre.
And they briefly harked back to the decade which launched them to stardom, posing with guests at the premiere who were dressed in a range of 80s-inspired brightly coloured clothes.
While their pop rivalry may be long-gone, their film - which follows on from Debbie's appearance in the monster movie Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus - sees them playing arch enemies.

It stars Debbie - or Deborah, as she now prefers to be known - as an animal rights activist with a fondness for enormous pythons, while Tiffany plays a park ranger who favours giant alligators.
All of which leads to the inevitable mayhem when the monsters get out of control - but they're not the only ones battling it out on screen, as the film also sees its two leading ladies getting into a fight.
However the pair admitted recently that they do not actually hate each other - and their onscreen rivalry in the film is purely for the benefit of the cameras.

'Back in the day, we crossed paths, but we were both so busy, running so fast, we didn't talk much,' Debbie said in an interview with AOL. - and Tiffany agreed.
'I have pictures of her and I from the 80s all over my house,' she revealed, 'but we never really knew each other. Now we're friends. We talk about my son, her relationship, food...all the stuff people talk normally about.
'I look at Debbie like a sister,' Tiffany added. 'We've been together a long time. The rivalry between us was never really there.'

Both Debbie and Tiffany were teenagers when they first hit the charts back in the late 80s.
Debbie was just 17 when she released her album Out Of The Blue in 1987 and scored a string of hits on both sides of the Atlantic, including Only In My Dreams, Shake Your Love, Electric Youth and Lost In Your Eyes.
She also holds the record as the youngest person ever to write, produce and perform a number one single with the track Foolish Beat, which topped the US charts in 1988.
Since her days of pop stardom she has enjoyed a successful theatre career, starring in numerous shows on Broadway as well as playing Sandy in the West End production of Grease.

Tiffany - who was born Tiffany Darwisch in California in 1971 - shot to pop stardom in 1987 aged 16 with the song I Think We're Alone Now, which she promoted with a tour of shopping malls across the US.
Chart success with songs including Could've Been and Radio Romance followed, but the hits had dried up by the early 90s.
However she has recently been recording new music and briefly returned to the spotlight when she appeared on the 2005 show Hit Me Baby One More Time, in which past pop stars competed against each other for the chance to release a new single.
Both she and Debbie Gibson have also posed for Playboy in the past.

With "I Think We're Alone Now" swirling in my head, I put on slouchy neon socks, my best acid washed taper jeans and LA Gear sneakers and headed down to the Canal Room to witness the ultimate battle of the '80's teen queens: Tiffany and Debbie Gibson on stage together for the first time ever (EVER!).

Each of the still-hot pop princesses sang their greatest hits, before hooking up for a giant sing-along version of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin.'" The evening was put together by Rubix Kube-the best '80's cover band to ever pick up a keytar. (Even Debbie pointed out that they sound just like the records.) How they managed to get everyone involved to say yes is one of those wonderful New York mysteries. Tiffany even did the Tiffany dance, and we nearly lost our mind. —Gabi Porter

Yesteryear Pop Diva Tiffany Outs Jonathan Knight As Gay, Fans Amazed

Jan 22, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Last Thursday Tiffany the pop diva of the 1980s told Andy Cohen of Bravo network in an episode of the show Watch What Happens Live that she used to date New Kids on the Block star Jonathan Knights at a time. However, she said “He’s fabulous. But he became gay later.” She was full of praise for him and said that they spent a nice time together. The remark has created sensation among the fans of the singer. So far the singer has not spoken openly about his sexual orientation. Later Tiffany thought her comment might have hurt her friend and she expressed apology soon after the show.

She wrote in popular micro blogging site Twitter that she did not want to hurt him at any cost. However, it turned out so that Jonathan Knight is pretty cool about the entire thing. He replied saying that he is not offended at her words and had taken it in his stride. He assured her that he could feel she did not have any mean intention while saying so. Tiffany was glad to know this and sent her thanks to him promptly. Jonathan Knight also asked his fans to stop lashing out at his friend Tiffany over the issue.

Now does it mean that he is indeed gay? This could be a possibility considering he did not deny the claim of Tiffany. Besides, the photos of him published in a celebrity magazine kissing a guy said to be Kyle Wilker, his ex boyfriend are out in the web. His gay fans must be on cloud nine now!

MEGA PYTHON VS GATOROID Premiere!

MEGA PYTHON VS GATOROID Premiere!
Rated Unknown; Director:Mary Lambert
Location: Alamo Downtown

Intro and Q&A with VFX Director Joe Lawson and star A Martinez!

World Theatrical Premiere!

In what promises to be the television movie event of 2011, '80s chart toppers Debbie Gibson and Tiffany get down and dirty in their long-awaited pop princess smackdown in this "ripped-from-the-headlines" Syfy Saturday Original Movie.

While the film airs later in January on Syfy, we're hosting its theatrical world premiere at Alamo Ritz!

A production from our friends The Asylum (the folks who brought us Mega Shark Vs Giant Octopus for Hecklevision back in September), MEGA PYTHON VS GATOROID takes an up-close-and-personal (and no-holds barred completely over the top) look at the crisis in the Florida Everglades where invasive Burmese pythons are threatening the indigenous alligator population.

Gibson portrays a fanatical animal rights advocate who spends her evenings "liberating" illegally imported exotic snakes from pet stores and setting them free in the Everglades, where the pythons grow and thrive.

Tiffany plays an over-zealous park ranger worried about the growing ecological damage. To save her beloved alligators, she's willing to employ dubious methods, overdosing them with steroids so they grow mega, setting off a war between the species -- and putting her on a collision course with Gibson. And oh boy, do they collide.

Just watch the clip over there and tell us how you could not possibly watch this movie!

Mega Python Vs Gatoroid premieres January 29 at 9PM (ET/PT) on SyFy

Kid Policy: 18 and up; Children 6 and up will be allowed only with a parent or guardian. No children under the age of 6 will be allowed.

More Tiffany/Debbie Advance Hype

Man, the internet is going fucking nuts over the pairing of former teen pop idols Tiffany and Debbie Gibson in the upcoming Asylum flick Mega Python vs. Gatoroid. This is the biggest match-up America didn't know it was longing for since Screech boxed Horshack. Here's yet another article interviewing Tiffany on the work she's done for the Asylum, the work she'd like to do, and the long-standing "rivalry" between she and Ms. Gibson. No release date yet on MP vs. G, but as soon as I know, you'll know.

Choose Your Side: Awesome New Asylum Merch

The Asylum's always had some pretty awesome swag, but they're really upping the ante in anticipation of the cultural maelstrom to come next year when former pop sensations Tiffany and Debbie Gibson go toe-to-toe in Mega Python vs. Gatoroid. I've linked to a few articles about this already; people do indeed seem to be gearing up for a cultural event akin to Celebrity Boxing or the Speidi sex tape. Leave to The Asylum, therefore, to find the most marketable way possible to capitalize on this fervor: Team Debbie/Tiffany gear.

Three words come to mind seeing these designs: Hell Fucking Yes.

It's official, I now know what everyone on my Christmas list is getting this year (that chill that just ran up your spine is either excitement, or transference from me of my wife's cold stare in my direction. she's so team debbie.).

If I were a betting man, and I am, I'd bet this phenomenon is going to get a lot bigger in the months to come. I'm predicting a back-page Bullseye in Entertainment Weekly for this gear between now and Thanksgiving. Get these awesome designs, as well as every Asylum movie ever's logo on a variety of merch, right here.

Oh, and if you didn't know already...Team Tiffany 4EVA, bitches!
