Did you know that 80′s pop sensation Tiffany originally went to Nashville in her early teens to record country music? Well, better late than never, right? She’s now making the media rounds promoting her new country album called Rose Tattoo (MP3 album on iTunes), which was just released last month. The first single is called Feel The Music. Here she is performing it live on Fox and Friends this morning. What do you think of the “country” Tiffany?
P.S. If you’re on Twitter, Tiffany’s backup singer in this video is our Twitter friend @dimeaglass. Looking good young lady…

Tiffany spoke to the New York Post about the tour:
We want to journey through the ’80s and all the artists who influenced us.
She also said that they would more than likely be doing songs by Stevie Nicks, Reba McIntyre and Guns N’ Roses, as well as Broadway tunes. That in addition to their own material. Tiffany is currently promoting her latest CD, Rose Tattoo.

'Glee' Confuses Debbie Gibson For Tiffany
Monday's "Glee" included an '80s teen idol mix-up, a snafu over which Debbie Gibson is maintaining her sense of humor.
Guest star Gwyneth Paltrow, playing substitute teacher Holly Holiday, was speaking to a group of students about making fun of each other when she confused Debbie for fellow pop star Tiffany.

"I spent 3 years sending hate mail to Debbie Gibson until she wrote me back and said, 'The stress of my letters was giving her alopecia,' and then I felt terrible cause I realized it was just my jealousy that she could fill a mall with adoring fans," Gwyneth's character said.
Access Hollywood checked in with Debbie following the episode, who said she wasn't surprised that the hit FOX comedy confused her for her mall-loving counterpart.

"Of course I played the clubs and Tiffany played the malls so all these years later they are still confusing us! LOL! But, when it comes to 'Glee' and Gwyneth any press is good press!" Debbie told Access in an e-mail message. "Now all we need is a 'Glee' 'Electric Youth' episode! Right?!?"
The duo, which recently starred together in SyFy's made-for-TV movie "Mega Python vs. Gatoroid," are hitting the road together this summer.
"That's why we're touring together," she added. "To prove we are indeed different people!"

Merrick’s Debbie Gibson rose to fame while still in high school. Her debut single, “Only In My Dreams” was released in the summer of 1987 and was followed in the fall by “Shake Your Love.” Out of the Blue her debut album was released that fall and by the spring of 1988, the title track had climbed to number three on the charts. With the release of her fourth single, “Foolish Beat,” Debbie Gibson became the youngest artist to write, produce and perform a #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. ”Lost in Your Eyes,” the first single from her sophomore effort, Electric Youth became her biggest hit, staying at number one for three weeks. In addition to her recording career, Debbie Gibson has starred on Broadway in “Les Miserables” and “Beauty and the Beast.” She starred in London in the West End production of “Grease” and toured nationally in “Grease,” “Funny Girl,” and appeared at the Paper Mill Playhouse in “Gypsy.” More recently she was seen in her second SyFy film “Mega Python vs. Gatorid” with Tiffany as her co-star.
TIFFANY is back! …to her roots. The dynamic voice of the 80s has returned to where it all started for her, country music and the Nashville music scene. Now a critically praised songwriter, Tiffany is set to capture your hearts again…with her new album of country/rock tunes! Tiffany began her career at the age of 13 when she signed her first recording contract with MCA. The self-titled debut album was released in 1987 and eventually went quadruple platinum. The innovative “Mall Tour” that followed proved to be the signature for Tiffany’s early career and was very effective in targeting her core audience of young teens making Tiffany the youngest female artist to debut at number one on the Billboard charts. Tiffany produced three top ten hits, two of which were national and international #1 pop singles “Could’ve Been” and the celebrated “I Think We’re Alone Now.” The soon-to-be teen pop phenomenon, New Kids on the Block, got their big break as the opening act for her world tour. Tiffany released her second album, Hold An Old Friend’s Hand, which went double platinum and featured the top ten hit “All This Time.”

This week, Deborah Gibson and Tiffany Darwish announced the first show of their aptly named "Journey Through the 80s" tour. Read more: http://musicouch.com/musicouching/80s-icons-debbie-gibson-and-tiffany-to-tour-together/#ixzz1KAjAU8pE
Deborah “Debbie” Gibson and Tiffany Darwish have announced their joint tour, with the first stop being Westbury, New York on July 29th. Called “Journey Through the 80s”, their tour will feature both the individual songs that earned the ladies top ten hits in the late eighties and early nineties, but also covers of songs by artists Stevie Nicks, Reba McIntyre and Guns N’ Roses.
Gibson rose to fame with her albums Out of the Blue and Electric Youth released in 1987 and 1989, respectively. While both albums earned her top ten hits and remarkable album sales, her song, Foolish Beat, earned her recognition as the youngest female to write, produce, and perform a number one single. She has continued to record, releasing albums, Anything Is Possible, Body Mind Soul, Think With Your Heart, Deborah, M.Y.O.B., Colored Lights: The Broadway Album, and Ms. Vocalist. In 2006, she recorded Say Goodbye with Jordan Knight which is featured on his album, Love Songs.
Aside from her music and her multiple acting roles in musical theater, Gibson maintains her Gibson Girl Foundation, which has awarded over $75,000 in scholarships for needy children so that they can further develop their musical talent. She also oversees the Electric Youth summer and winter camps which provide advanced performing arts training to youths aged 10 to 20 years of age.
While she was seen most recently seen performing at Perez Hilton’s 30th birthday party, Gibson can be found frequently on twitter gushing about her favorite television shows and music groups.
Singing from the time she was four years-old, Tiffany rose to fame through her Star Search performance in 1985 and “The Beautiful You: Celebrating The Good Life Shopping Mall Tour” in 1987. The month before her 16th birthday, Tiffany released her self-titled debut album which peaked at number one on the billboard charts. Similar to Gibson, she is recognized as the youngest artist to have a debut album chart at number one. And, like Gibson, she has never stopped singing.
To date, Tiffany has released 8 albums, including Tiffany, Hold an Old Friend’s Hand, New Inside, Dreams Never Die, The Color of Silence, Dust Off and Dance, Just Me, and Rose Tattoo.
In addition to her music, Tiffany has also added film acting to her repertoire. In 2004, she starred in the Film Psychosis short, The Isolationist.
Both Tiffany and Gibson were seen bringing the height of their rivalry to the screen in the 2011 sci-fi, Mega Python vs. Gatoroid. This isn’t the first time the two have shared the stage either. In 2009, Gibson played the piano while Tiffany sang her hit, What Could Have Been.
While a complete list of tour dates has yet to be released, tickets for the Westbury show are available for purchase. Fans can follow Deborah Gibson and Tiffany Darwish on twitter to stay up to date on their upcoming tour.

Singer Tiffany to perform at B.B. King's Thursday, April 21, 2011 LAST UPDATED: THURSDAY APRIL 21, 2011, 7:29 AM THE RECORD 8 p.m. SUNDAY, MANHATTAN
ALONE NOW?
The latest artist to turn to country, former teen pop star Tiffany hopes her new album and accompanying tour connect with fans.
TELL ME MORE: She had one big song, and like a lot of other young artists, she got a lot of mileage from that song. Almost 25 years have passed since her cover of "I Think We're Alone Now" scorched the pop charts.
It's not that Tiffany up and vanished since that hit put her on the map. She lost 30 pounds on "VH1's Celebrity Fit Club," filmed a made-for-cable movie and guest-starred on an episode of "How I Met Your Mother." But Tiffany is a musician first, an actress-reality star second. And with this new country album, "Rose Tattoo," Tiffany is chasing success via the genre that first inspired her to pick up a microphone.
We're guessing the crowd will be fans in their 30s, kids who grew up with the little girl who once played shopping malls. Whether they follow her down these dusty country roads is another matter.
QUOTE: "I've been wanting to get back to country music. For me, with country music, you can be a mom, you can be a wife and have your cake and eat it too, as far as family life. Country music is about loving people, it's about having a life and being proud of who you are." – Tiffany, in a 2011 interview with AOL Music's The Boot

'80s Pop Rivals Debbie Gibson and Tiffany Planning to Tour Together 8 Comments By The Editors of AOL Music Posted Apr 19th 2011 02:30AM
The '80s pop scene was ruled by two teen queens, Tiffany and Debbie Gibson. The former hit-making rivals announced that they are teaming up to go on a tour together, themed after the decade that made them famous.
"We want to journey through the '80s and all the artists who influenced us," Tiffany told New York Post.
She and 'Mega Python vs. Gatoroid' co-star Gibson will cover hits by the decades' icons, including Stevie Nicks, Reba McIntyre and Guns N' Roses.
Tiffany, now 39, sky rocketed into pop super-stardom overnight with her 1987 dance hit 'I Think We're Alone Now' from her debut album 'Tiffany' -- while Gibson, 40, topped the charts with hits including 'Lost in Your Eyes' and 'Electric Youth' from her 1989 'Electric Youth.'

Tiffany and Debbie Gibson's Names Don't Combine as Well as NKOTBSB Posted Tue Apr 19, 2011 11:57am PDT by Caryn Ganz in Amplifier
In the spirit of NKOTBSB, '80s pop icons Tiffany and Debbie Gibson are hoping a package deal will put thirtysomething asses in the seats. Costarring in a ridiculous Syfy movie called Mega Python vs. Gatoroid (which has been fantastically documented on The Soup) went so well, the singers are planning to team up for a tour. "We want to journey through the '80s and all the artists who influenced us," Tiffany told the New York Post. That means their biggest hits of course -- like anyone would let Deborah out of the venue with all her teeth if she didn't do "Electric Youth" -- and covers of songs by artists as diverse as Guns N' Roses, Reba McIntyre, and Stevie Nicks. Evidently the duo have gotten the Gleememo, because Broadway tunes are on the menu, too. Fun fact: GN'R's Appetite for Destruction, Tiffany's Tiffany, and Gibson's Out of the Blue all came out in 1987! Funny that punk broke just four years later ...

1988年秋天,Tiffany在風風雨雨中推出第二張專輯「Hold An Old Friend's Hand」,首支抒情單曲「All This Time」,Tiffany以憂鬱內斂的唱腔唱出戀人分手的心情,直入TOP 6,第二支單曲「Radio Romance」走輕快活潑的路線打入TOP35,第三支單曲「Hold An Old Friend's Hand」則名列成人抒情榜TOP35。
1995-2000年,Tiffany的聲音只出現在少數合輯中,包括為街頭遊民義唱的「In Harmony With The Homeless」專輯、鋼琴歌手Rick Rhodes的專輯、電影【The Thin Pink Line】原聲帶及U2、Blondie的致敬專輯中。
Reality Show-Hit me baby one more time,和也曾紅極一時的Gloria Gaynor、Vanilla Ice、Belinda Carlisle、Sophie B. Hawkins、Shakin Stevens等同台演出,獲得熱烈迴響;六月,推出全舞曲創作專輯「Dust Off and Dance」,有別於前作的搖滾風,以電子樂為主,其中並收錄成名曲「I Think We're Alone Now」的Remix版,強勁的音符、深度的歌詞、充滿力量的自信歌聲,再度獲得大好評。

Tiffany?
Gibson and Tiffany planning tour
Eighties pop rivals DEBBIE GIBSON and TIFFANY are putting their past differences behind them and heading out on tour together.

Tiffany tells New York Post gossip column PageSix, "We want to journey through the '80s and all the artists who influenced us."

OMG!!! Tiffany & Debbie Gibson Are Going On Tour!!! Filed under: Music Minute
Can't breathe!!! Too excited!!! Someone get us some leg warmers and fingerless gloves STAT!
Whether you are a child of the 80s or a big fan of Mega Python vs. Gatoroid, this news is going to blow your mind!
Tiffany has just announced that she and Debbie Gibson are working on getting a joint tour together! Calling it a"journey through the 80s," Tiffany reveals she and Debbie will perform a lot of their own material as well as covers hits by Stevie Nicks, Reba McIntyre andGuns N' Roses from the decade.
Yes, yes and more YES!!! This is truly epic!!! We'll be there, front row, singing our hearts out!!! We can't wait!!
UR gonna go too, right???
DEBBIE GIBSON AND TIFFANY ANNOUNCE JOINT TOUR!
Were you a child raised in the '80s, or at least a lover of the time period when dance pop wore acid was jeans, fringed leather jackets, and Reboks? Can you not forget about the heyday of shopping mall tours? If so, then you might appreciate the good news that is beckoning an '80s revival.
It has recently been revealed that pop superstars Tiffany and Debbie Gibson (the Christina andBritney of their day) will be uniting for a tour, and they are calling it “A Journey Through the '80s.” It has been over 20 years since the glory days of Tiffany’s cover of “I Think We’re Alone Now” and Debbie Gibson’s “Shake Your Love” had the two battling for the cover of Teen Beat magazine. But if history repeats itself, then we are well overdue for a rejuvenation that will result in lots of head shakin' and arm swingin’ and lots of neon!
After dabbling in music here and there over these past few years, Tiff and Deb gave us a preview of their powers uniting when they co-starred in the SyFy original flick Mega Python vs. Gatoroid in January. It is exciting to think of what we can expect to see when they rock the stage in true '80s fashion (minus the hair). The pair say we should expect to hear their hits as well as covers fromStevie Nicks, Guns N Roses, and Reba McEntire.
If this tour goes the way we hope it does, maybe we will be so lucky to have NKOTB drop the BSBfor a couple nights and join the ladies for a few shows; Wouldn’t that be a doozy!!!
To get all you 20-somethings up to speed who did not have the pleasure of experiencing these '80s goddesses firsthand, check out both Tiffany's and Debbie's biggest hits: "I Think We're Alone Now" and"Shake Your Love".
What do you think Tiffany and Debbie Gibson’s return?

Tiffany and Debbie Gibson to go on tour By Anthony Lund on 18/04/2011
The 80's babes are joining forces for a "Journey through the 80s".
You may remember many of you getting excited by a Sy-Fy Channel film that put 80’s pop babes Tiffany and Debbie Gibson on screen together fighting a giant snake and crocodile or some such tosh.
If you were one of those people, you may want to take a seat before reading on.
The pair have now announced that they are planning to do a joint tour together. Yes that is “I Think We’re Alone Now”’s Tiffany and…well you don’t need me to tell you who Debbie Gibson is. She has a surname for a start so that kind of removes any doubt.
The tour will be s “journey through the 80s” according to Tiffany, who made the announcement. She revealed that they will not only be singing a selection of their own hits from the 80s, but will also be covering other well known songs from the decade, including hits by Guns N Roses and Reba McIntyre.
Don’t say I don’t give you anything to smile about.

Tiffany's 'Rose Tattoo' Earns Her Nashville's Stamp of Approval Posted Apr 7th 2011 4:00PM by Gayle Richardson
Pop star, Tiffany, best known for her '80s hits, 'I Think We're Alone Now' and 'Could've Been,' is back -- and back where she started. The 39-year-old began her musical career more than thirty years ago, performing country songs as a precocious pre-teen on the West Coast. Now, after enjoying a successful run as a pop star and releasing several independent albums, including a dance project and her critically-acclaimed CD, 'Just Me,' in 2007, the Tennessee resident returns to the genre she fell in love with as a child with her brand-new album, 'Rose Tattoo.'
"Being here in Nashville ... starting to live a life that I have always dreamed of in music, doing the shows I want to do and playing places I've always wanted to play is a stamp of approval," Tiffany tells The Boot. "There's a lot of talented people here and you don't just come into town and say 'Ta-da!' You have to earn your way, and I'm still doing that, but I love challenges and this is real for me. The more people that hear the music, the more I'm like, 'Yeah!'"
The married mother of one says she returned to her favorite format partly because of her family values. "I've been wanting to get back to country music," she explains. "For me, with country music, you can be a mom, you can be a wife and have your cake and eat it too, as far as family life. Country music is about loving people, it's about having a life and being proud of who you are. I always saw that when I was young -- people would roll up on buses and have their dogs and kids. I think sometimes [in pop], that's really frowned on a little as it's bigger than life and it's all about the celebrities. In country, they really look at the singer, where in the pop world, I wasn't really showing my talent. I was enjoying it, but it was more about being hip and cool and I'm not so sure I'm hip and cool anymore [laughs]. But I can sing and I love great music and I love the stories and the warmth in a country song."
The red-haired singer is still on the road, performing several shows each month, but adds that she's always eager to expand her career. "Right now, I'm doing it independently, which is great. I'm learning a lot," she acknowledges. "But I think everybody's dream is to find a label or somebody who can take them to the next level. I am very limited in what I can do. I can take it to the road or on the radio. I'm doing a video next month, so with my name people kind of go, 'Ohhh,' but it's really the music and the live performances that are turning their heads. I'm a big stickler of doing the work -- no matter what -- but being with a bigger label, there's a lot more people to help."
Tiffany will perform several shows across the country in the next few months, singing songs from her new album, including stops in Delaware, California and Illinois. Keep track of her schedule here.

Pop Star Tiffany Releases Country Album by Holly Marie Tong
She locked in listeners in the 1980’s as a fast rising teen pop star. She has graced the screens of televisions and the pages of countless popular na-tional magazines. She is the voice behind the unforgettable hit single “I Think We’re Alone Now,” (which was originally a hit in 1967 by Tommy James & the Shondells and written by Ritchie Cordell). She has toured the world making a significant splash in the entertainment in-dustry as a singer, songwriter and an actress. “She is Tiffany” and don’t think for a minute that she is rest-ing on her laurels. While it is indisputably essential to understand Tiffany’s prior successes and star studded journey, it is even more essential to understand that she is not only currently thriving, but her future is un-deniably bright and packed full of upcoming projects and exciting happenings.
Interestingly, while one may be led to first associ-ate Tiffany with pop music, she actually began her career in Nashville! At just 10 years old she performed on the Ralph Emery show and it was at this age that she had already shared the stage with George Jones, Jack Reeves and Johnny Lee. She can still recall taking in the country music scene, enjoying time at the Opryland theme park and watching her dreams take form right here in Music City. With that said Tiffany is undoubtedly, deeply rooted in country music and has always wanted to release an album within this genre. Combining her appreciation for all of her musical influences with her original and previ-ous chapters within her career, her album is truly one of the most well-rounded, diverse projects that I have ever heard. I find “Rose Tattoo” to be the perfect title for this album as it is not only the name of the Cali-fornia bar where Tiffany performed as a teenager but to me it also represents her positive individuality and charisma that makes her an artist we all love and ap-preciate.
I had the privilege of attending Tiffany’s CD release party that was recently held at the Lis-tening Room, and I was certainly “not alone” in my anticipa-tion as this venue was more packed than I had personally ever seen it. As soon as she hit the stage, it was certain as to why she has been so suc-cessful and why she will continue to experience that same fate. Tiffany is not only an outstanding vocalist but also a standout entertainer and a praiseworthy songwriter, having co-written all but one song on her new album. Upon listening to Rose Tattoo, you can expect to hear everything from the upbeat, foot-tapping party tunes that you will make you want to get up out of your seat and dance such as “Feel the Music,” and “Crazy Girls,” to the touching ballad “He Won’t Miss Me.” Tiffany shows how down to earth she truly is in her quirky tune “Just That Girl,” a feel good number in which listeners can join her in the quest of learning to love their personal imperfec-tions. Rose Tattoo strongly showcases a broad array of influences, emotions and melodies successfully covering all bases and all audiences. Being influ-enced by everyone ranging from Patsy Cline to Bon-nie Raitt to Emmy Lou Harris to Stevie Nicks, Tif-fany knew she wanted an album that would have ele-ments of everyone and everything. She knew she wanted this project to be a fit for her personality and a reflection of who she is, while showcasing her vo-cals and bringing an edge. I would say she has done just that…and exceedingly more!
Tiffany’s current career excitement is far from ending here though, as she is also gaining recognition for her acting skills. She just starred in a sy-fy channel movie with Debbie Gibson earning good ratings. “It was so much fun. I had such a good time with the fight scene. It was my favorite scene and I really got into it,” smiles Tiffany. Having always been a huge sci-fi fan Tiffany jumped on the opportunity to do this project and understandably had a blast in doing so. She says that it will be in DVD form soon and should be avail-able at places such as Wal-Mart and Redboxes. She has also appeared in a national commercial with Meatloaf and the CBS television shows “The Young & The Restless” and “How I Met Your Mother.” If that isn’t enough for one person, she also recently won VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club. Not surprisingly she has recently been featured in national articles and television shows. Tif-fany says she would like to be in-volved in more acting in the future and would love to work with life-time movies. Perhaps some more science fiction could be also be ap-pearing on her future agenda. After all, she loves it and she sure is good at it!
Make no mistake, while Tiffany loves acting and is from California, she is currently residing right here in Nashville with her husband and son determined to enjoy a continued meaningful music career of longev-ity. It is clear that she is here for the love of music and the love of connecting with her fans. In the proc-ess, she enjoys supporting and encouraging others, forming friendships and networking. She places an emphasize on supporting the up and coming and spends a lot of time at various writers nights and com-munity events. While she has already obviously had an established career, her humble ability to support, befriend and learn from others shines through making her not only an artist that I highly respect profession-ally but also personally.
She is very grateful to her fans and always wants to thank them for allowing her to fulfill her dream. She absolutely loves being with her full band and enjoying the country music scene. She said that what moves her is what makes her different and that true Tiffany fans know her passion and know her influences. Her sound can be described as “organic country blues with a lit-tle flare of rock in it.” She says “Be refreshing, be quirky and be comfortable in your own skin.”
Just from being around Tiffany, her encouragement and positivity is contagious. When I asked her about career advice she stated, “Sometimes when you think you’ve lost everything, just know it will come back, it’s just a passing season, it’s not over. If you really love what you do, something will happen. Have a good time. Don’t ever think…oh, this place is a dive, or it’s just karaoke because no mat-ter how big or small, you are learn-ing to work on your vocals. You need to know who you are before people will pay attention. Sing in your room, do it for you…there is a difference. Know your strength, sing wherever you can whether its choir or wherever it is, get involved.”
“I’m goofy and young at heart. I have a sense of humor. I’m a hard-worker and a go-getter. I rise to all occasions and I am thankful,” says Tiffany. I say without reservation that Tiffany knows precisely what she is doing as she already has a loyal fan base and consistently gains new fans and friends everywhere she goes. I also say without reservation that her natural, real, respectable character is equal to her incredible talent. Equipped with her past successes, her acting, her new raved about album, her continued worldwide attention and a sure-footed promising future, it is safe to say that Tif-fany is unstoppable….and I am rooting for her all the way!

Tiffany Goes Country on ‘Rose Tattoo' By Paul E. Pratt Published: April 7, 2011
Former ‘80s Teen Pop Icon Performs April 8 at The Rrazz Room
“I love all types of music, but as a vocalist, I think I’ve always seen myself back in country music,” admits Tiffany.
The statement might leave many fans scratching their heads, since most have never known the one-time teen pop sensation to be “country.” They do recall her ‘80s hey-day, however, when Tiffany’s self-titled debut topped Billboard charts and spawned back-to-back #1 singles “I Think We’re Alone Now” and “Could’ve Been.”
Before hitting the big-time as a bubblegum confection, though, a young Tiffany was discovered singing at a Chino, CA, honky-tonk. At only 10-years-old, she landed in Nashville for the first time, looking for a record deal.
“I wanted to be Stevie Nicks gone country, I think,” she shares during a recent telephone interview promoting her long-awaited, full-scale country music project Rose Tattoo. “But people said I was too young.”
Though the pre-teen won raves performing alongside country icons Jerry Lee Lewis and George Jones, covering songs like country-pop hits “Delta Dawn” and Juice Newton’s “Queen of Hearts,” the music industry had other ideas. Rather than the country music she loved, Tiffany was pushed toward pop.
“I didn’t even want to sing ‘I Think We’re Alone Now,’” she confesses, “But when I brought the demo home and played it for my friends, they all started dancing around the room. I wanted to be ‘cool, so I recorded it. Obviously, I’m glad.”
By 1987, spurred by her infamous “mall tour,” Tiffany was on the cover of teen magazines around the world. She racked up four Top 10 hits, with global record sales in excess of 15 million. Her headlining tour was one of the year’s most successful, even launching to superstar status opening act New Kids on the Block.
In the years since, as her commercial success cooled, Tiffany’s floated from genre-to-genre. In an effort to find her footing and prove herself as an artist, she dabble in R&B-inflected pop and dance. She’s remained in the public eye with a 2002 spread in Playboy and by winning the 2007 season of Celebrity Fit Club.
Musically, the return to her country roots started in earnest ten years ago. The first major step was her critically-acclaimed 2000 release The Color of Silence.
“It got people used to seeing me with a band,” she says of the rock-based disc which Billboard magazine declared one of the year’s best – and biggest surprises. “It got the message out there that I really can sing, that I’m a viable artist, that I am a songwriter.”
Four years ago, following the release of lauded electronica album Shut Up and Dance which was inspired by and dedicated largely to Tiffany’s LGBT fanbase (and returned her to dance music charts for the first time in well over a decade), the singer made a decision. She moved to Nashville to pursue her “heart’s desire” – a country music album — seriously..
“I didn’t want to shed the whole ‘Tiffany’ persona, but that was a different life,” says the star. With her famously red tresses dyed black, she immersed herself in the local music scene, spending nearly two years honing her skills as a songwriter, working with local music producers and musicians and putting the ball in motion for her reinvention.
The result is Tiffany’s eighth studio album Rose Tattoo. From the Doobie Brothers-influence first single “Feel the Music” and rollicking Thelma & Louise-inspired duet “Crazy Girls,” the self-released collection runs the gamut of contemporary country music. Tiffany shares writing credits on all but one of the eight songs.
“If you like Lady Antebellum, if you like Sugarland, if you like Taylor Swift or Keith Urban, this is the new country,” says Tiffany. “You don’t have to live in the backwoods to understand love stories, heartbreak, something like ‘Crazy Girls,’ about just letting it go and being wild for a night.”
To support the new album, Tiffany is hitting the road for shows around the country. On Friday, April 8, she lands one-night-only at San Francisco’s Rrazz Room. She plans the new material, her hits and songs which inspired her along the way for a 10:30 p.m. show.
“It’s an amazing thing for me right now to be able to bring all of it to a small, intimate place like The Rrazz Room,” she says. “I know when I go on the road in the next few months with my band, that intimacy won’t be there like it will be at The Rrazz Room. I love that, being there in the moment.”
Though she enjoys every track on the new album, Tiffany’s most excited to perform the ballads. “That’s what I do best, to be honest, she says, “It lets people know I really can sing. It always amazes me when people are shocked by how well I do live.”
For the Bay Area appearance, Tiffany anticipates a strong showing from her LGBT fanbase. Apparent from the start of her career, gay fans have remained true to the performer, who has reciprocated by appearing at Pride festivals around the country.
“I always say the gay community loves good music, they love talent, so they have continued to support me – which is awesome,” says Tiffany. “Even with this music, my fans have said, ‘I don’t know anything about country music’ – but they buy the album. Then they’re like, ‘Girl, you really bring it!’”
According to Tiffany, the music she writes is about universal feelings, not genre or sexual orientation. She points to “He Won’t Miss Me,” one of her favorite tracks from Rose Tattoo, as a great example.
“I love songs that are real and true, and I think people can relate,” she says of the wrenching ballad. “Whether it’s a friendship or a personal relationship, we’ve all been there at some place or time when we’re really chasing after somebody, and that person has already closed the door.”
That kind of emotional authenticity resonates with listeners, she says, especially gays.
“I think for me, with a gay following, they’re open-minded,” Tiffany says, “It’s like, ‘As long as we believe what you’re doing, we’ll stand behind you.’ I really appreciate that!”
